Explaining how you can still win or tie for 1st place
The previous page shows your chances to Win or Tie for 1st place for the week. It also shows the game(s) that has the most importance to you, with
respect to both winning or tying.
For example, consider the following...
Clueless Goober can win 863 different ways or 5.27% of the time
...there can be a 2-way tie 72 different ways or 0.44% of the time
...there can be a 3-way tie 16 different ways or 0.10% of the time
...there can be a 4-way tie 3 different ways or 0.02% of the time
Most Important Game(s) - WINS
Game # 5 -- 746 -- Kansas City-WASHINGTON
Most Important Game(s) - TIES (91 total)
Game #13 -- 85 -- PHILADELPHIA-Dallas
In the above example, Clueless Goober has 863 different ways that he can win. He also has 91 (72 + 16 + 3) different ways of tying for the lead. Of those 91 ways to tie,
72 of those he would be tied with one other person, 16 ways he would be tied with two other people, and 3 different possibilities have him tying with 3 other people.
The statement "Most Important Game(s) - WINS" indicates which game most of your chances of winning hinge on. Again using the above example, Clueless Goober has 863 chances
of winning. 746 of those chances will be wiped out if he gets the Kansas City/Washington game wrong. If Clueless Goober misses this game he will only have 117 (863 minus 746)
chances left to win. Similarly, if he misses the Philadelphia/Dallas game, that will eliminate 85 of his 91 chances to tie and he will be left with a mere 6 possibilities to tie.
If you see the following...
Yooper can win 380 different ways or 5.27% of the time
...there can be a 2-way tie 32 different ways or 0.44% of the time
...there can be a 3-way tie 10 different ways or 0.10% of the time
...there can be a 4-way tie 8 different ways or 0.02% of the time
...there can be a 5-way tie 5 different ways or 0.10% of the time
Most Important Game(s) - WINS
Game # 5 -- 380 -- Kansas City-WASHINGTON
Game # 6 -- 380 -- N.Y. Giants-New Orleans
Most Important Game(s) - TIES (55 total)
Game #13 -- 50 -- PHILADELPHIA-Dallas
Notice that there are two games listed under "Most Important Game(s) - WINS", both of which have the same number as Yooper's entire number of chances to win (380). This means
that if Yooper misses EITHER of these games he will be eliminated from finishing in 1st place for the week.
So now are you completely confused?
